Gathering in God’s Presence

     Welcome and Announcements

*    Call to Worship                                                                                                             from Psalm 9:1-2, NRSV

We will give thanks to you, O LORD, with our whole heart; we will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

We will be glad and exult in you; we will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

*   Salutation                                                                                       Galatians 1:3-5, NRSV

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

*   Songs of Praise            “I Give You My Heart”

                                           “There Is None Like You”

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, you made us in your image, with a mind to know you, a heart to love you, and a will to serve you.  But our knowledge is imperfect, our love inconstant, our obedience incomplete.  Day by day, we fail to grow into your likeness.  In your tender love, forgive us through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Words of Assurance                                                based on Romans 8:34; 2 Corinthians 5:17

Hear the good news!

Who is in a position to condemn?

Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us.

Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.  The old life has gone; a new life has begun.

Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace.

Thanks be to God.

God’s Will for Our Lives                                                           based on Matthew 22:37-40

What is the great and first commandment?

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

What is the second commandment like it?

Love your neighbor as yourself.

What does this mean?

Love is the fulfilling of the law.

To what does this call us?

To a life of faith working through love.

Responding to God’s Grace

* Professing Our Faith                                                             - Apostles' Creed, ecumenical version

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord.

     He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin

     Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was

     buried.  He descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again.  He

     ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He

     will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholicV Church, the communion of

     saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life

                   everlasting.  Amen.

(Vthat is, the true Christian church of all times and all places)

Our Tithes and Offerings

*   Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Amen.

*   Prayer of Dedication of Gifts and Self

Merciful Father, we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us—our selves, our time, and our possessions—signs of your gracious love.  Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us—Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Prayers of God’s People and Lord’s Prayer                                                   Traditional

          Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

          thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

          Give us this day our daily bread.

          And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

          And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.

*   Hymn for Departing 82         “Victory in Jesus”

*   Benediction                                                                                     based on Philippians 4:7

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, remain with you always.  Amen.

*   Parting Chorus                 “Thou Art Worthy”

Thou art worthy, Thou art worthy,

Thou art worthy, O Lord,

To receive glory, glory and honor,

Glory and honor and pow'r;

For Thou has created, hast all things created,

Thou hast created all things,

And for Thy pleasure they are created:

Thou art worthy, O Lord!

* Indicates all who are able are invited to stand.

Communion at Church of the Saviour takes place around the table.  After the liturgy the elders will direct people to come forward and take a seat at the table.  We begin by passing the bread.  You are invited to take a piece of bread and pass the loaf while in turn you repeat the phrase, “The body of Christ given for you.”  You may partake of the bread.  The cup follows and begins with the common cup.  If you so desire, you can drink from the common cup before passing it on with the phrase, “The blood of Christ shed for you.”  For those who do not wish to drink from the common cup, a tray of individual cups will follow from which you may take one.  When all at the table have been served, the pastor will give a blessing of peace.  At this time, all stand and share the peace of Christ.  The elders will also serve those who wish to partake of communion and are unable to make it to the front.
